The Inferno Tower is a powerful defensive building unlocked at Town Hall 10 that can be set to single-target or multi-target mode. Single mode deals escalating damage to one troop, while multi-target mode damages up to 5 troops simultaneously.
The Inferno Tower is one of the most versatile defenses in Clash of Clans. Unlocked at TH10 with 2 towers (expanding to 3 at TH11), it serves as a critical counter to both tank-heavy and swarm-heavy attack strategies. The choice between single and multi-target mode fundamentally changes how the defense performs against different army compositions.
At maximum level, the single-target Inferno Tower ramps from 42 DPS to 1,680 DPS over 5.25 seconds. This escalating damage makes it devastating against high-HP troops like Golems, Lava Hounds, Electro Dragons, and Root Riders. Multi-target mode splits damage across 5 targets at a consistent rate, making it effective against Witch Slap, Bat Spell, and skeleton-heavy attacks.
Set Inferno Towers to single target when defending against Electro Dragon spam, Root Rider attacks, Lava Hound-based LaLo, and hero-heavy Queen Charge strategies. Single mode melts high-HP troops that multi mode cannot kill fast enough.
Single-target Inferno Towers excel against the current 2026 meta where Root Rider spam, Electro Dragon attacks, and Queen Charge strategies dominate high Town Hall levels. The ramping damage means a single Inferno Tower can destroy a max-level Electro Dragon (5,100 HP) in approximately 4 seconds once fully ramped.
At TH11, set 2 Inferno Towers to single and 1 to multi for balanced coverage. At TH12-TH14, maintain a 2:1 ratio favoring single target. At TH15-TH18, the meta shifts — consider 2 single and 1-2 multi depending on whether Witch/Bat attacks or Root Rider/E-Drag attacks are more common in your war matchups.
Set Inferno Towers to multi-target when defending against Witch Slap attacks, Bat Spell strategies, mass Skeleton armies, and swarm-heavy compositions. Multi mode handles multiple low-HP units that single mode wastes damage on.
Multi-target Inferno Towers counter swarm strategies by hitting 5 targets simultaneously. Against a Witch Slap attack, each skeleton spawned by Witches absorbs one beam of a single-target Inferno, effectively neutralizing it. Multi-target mode ignores individual skeletons and focuses sustained damage across the attacking army.
Bat Spell strategies are particularly vulnerable to multi-target Infernos. A single multi-target Inferno Tower can destroy an entire wave of Bat Spells before they reach critical defenses. For this reason, at least one multi-target Inferno Tower is recommended at every Town Hall level from TH10 onward.
Place Inferno Towers in separate compartments forming a triangle or diamond pattern around the base core. Each Inferno Tower should cover a different section to prevent attackers from avoiding all of them with a single entry point.
Inferno Tower placement follows three key principles. First, spread them across different compartments — never place two Inferno Towers in the same compartment, as a single Freeze Spell could neutralize both. Second, position them 4-6 tiles from the Eagle Artillery to create overlapping kill zones without clustering high-value targets. Third, place them deep enough that Queen Charges cannot reach them from the base edge without significant investment.
At TH10 (2 Infernos), place them on opposite sides of the base. At TH11 (3 Infernos), form a triangle. At TH12+ with more Infernos available through upgrades, maintain at least 6 tiles between each Inferno Tower to prevent area-denial spells (Freeze, Lightning) from affecting multiple towers.
