A strong clan war base prioritizes anti-3 star design over resource protection. Key elements include centralized key defenses, multiple compartments, unpredictable trap placement, and coverage against the most common attack strategies at your Town Hall level.
War bases differ fundamentally from farming or trophy bases. In clan wars, the attacker gets unlimited scouting time and can plan a specific strategy to 3-star your base. A war base must withstand deliberate, optimized attacks — not random multiplayer raids.
The core principle of war base design is anti-3 star defense. Conceding a 2-star (50%) is acceptable if it consistently prevents 3-stars. This means centralizing the Town Hall is less important than spreading defenses to ensure attackers run out of time or troops before clearing the entire base.
Rotate your war base every 2-3 wars to prevent opponents from pre-planning attacks based on previous war replays. Keep 2-3 different war bases saved and switch between them.
Opponents in Clan Wars can watch replays of previous attacks on your base. If you use the same base for multiple wars, skilled attackers identify trap locations, hero positions, and CC troop paths from these replays. Rotating bases eliminates this intelligence advantage.
Maintain 2-3 war bases in your saved layouts. After each war, switch to a different base for the next war. Every 4-6 weeks, replace one of your saved bases with a completely new layout. This rotation ensures opponents never have reliable information about your current base design.
Anti-3 star design spreads defenses across the entire base rather than concentrating them in the core. The goal is to ensure attackers cannot clear all buildings within the 3-minute attack timer, even if they destroy the Town Hall.
Anti-3 star bases accept that the Town Hall may fall but make it extremely difficult to clean up the remaining 50%+ of the base within the time limit. Key design principles include placing trash buildings (Army Camps, Barracks, Spell Factories) in corners and edges that require troops to walk long distances.
High-HP storage buildings placed in outer compartments act as time sinks — troops spend 10-15 seconds destroying each storage while taking damage from nearby defenses. Spread Archer Towers and Cannons around the base perimeter so that cleanup troops face resistance at every angle.
